A week after I moved to San Francisco, I decided to take a fitness class in the hopes that I could meet other moms in the area, and try to get back into shape. I really hit the jackpot finding Keely’s classes. I have worked with many coaches in my life, and after my competitive sport’s career was done, with many fitness professionals. Keely is by far at the top of this list. Her classes allow all fitness levels to get a good workout without disrupting the flow, which is not an easy thing to do. She is able to tailor the exercises to your needs, based on injuries, fitness level and goals. Whether you are 6 weeks postpartum or running marathons, she can find a way to challenge you. She has a creative mind and is able to use a wide variety of tools, ie. exercise bands, random cement blocks, stairs, medicine balls, TRX....really anything we come across she can find a way to incorporate a challenging exercise with it. Not to say that her classes are random, she has set plans for the classes and target muscle groups to hit. But she has a great ability to use the environment we are in during her planning. I also want to add that my kids love her classes. They have met their best friends in these classes and Keely includes them in the exercise with songs and games. It is such a great early way to show the importance of exercise to our kids.I also did personal training with Keely and cannot gush enough about it. In each session, she knew just how far to push me, which was farther than I would have pushed myself on my own. I love the use of TRX, free weights, kettlebells, and my own body weight to tone my whole body. I never worried about injuries with her because she always made sure my form was correct and knew when to have me stop an exercise if it looked like I wasn’t able to maintain form because of fatigue. I was able to train with her throughout my second pregnancy, making my labor very easy and also my recovery much faster. I never really thought of myself as a runner, but because of Keely’s encouragement, I was able to run 3 half marathons, and enjoy them.I think the biggest difference between Keely and other trainers is Keely herself. There are many who are just cheerleaders and many are just about the exercise and getting the work done. Keely is both. She has this way about her that puts you immediately at ease, which then makes it much easier to admit where you need help and what you want to achieve. Once this is known, she will work tirelessly to come up with an achievable plan and check in with you to keep you on track. I highly recommend Keely for training and group exercise. She is the person you want in your corner, she is the one I look to for inspiration in how to stay healthy (mentally and physically) while being a mom.
I don’t even know where to start. I guess I should start by saying Portland is very lucky and San Francisco is very sad!! I have known Keely for 5 years now, I started Stroller Strides when my first daughter was only 3 months old, she is now starting kindergarten!! And I have my second one now too. I used to hate exercise, but Keely made it fun. It wasn’t boring exercise, I was meeting with friends, pushing myself farther than ever before and feeling great for it. Keely always took time to make sure I was using good form and showed me modifications to help with my health issues.Keely is sweet and kind, fun and really wonderful. When I run into her round town with the kids they are always so happy to see her, and she is always happy to see them. I am truly sad to see Keely move and hope all of Portland will welcome her!!!
Let me begin by reviewing Keely’s fitness and training abilities. You are, after all, here to find someone to help you be fit and healthy. I would consider myself a pretty reliable source for a review as I am a 4 year, scholarship, Division 1 volleyball athlete and have been very involved in fitness and exercise my whole adult life. Excuse me if I start gushing.I participated in Keely’s group fitness classes for mothers and personal training sessions for two and a half years before I had to move across the country. She is an incredibly talented fitness instructor. Personal training sessions focused on both cardio and strength. She made sure to include exercises that she knew I enjoyed (like boxing) and also pushed me to get better at things she knew I needed work on (hello, cardio!). I always left feeling like I was getting stronger, fitter and doing something great for myself. Her group classes for mamas were equally amazing. Even though we were in a group environment, she made sure to provide personalized training. She always remembered if you had injuries or any other issues that required exercise modifications. She emphasized proper body positioning and changed things up a lot, class was never boring or repetitive. Being in San Francisco, she also picked great places to work out: at the zoo, below the golden gate bridge, at the beach. It rocked. Did I mention she just ran the Boston Marathon? In a pretty decent time, too! I highly recommend you see Keely regarding reaching your fitness and health goals.I do feel it bears mentioning Keely the person, outside of strict fitness training. She focuses on the person as a whole: mind, body and spirit. She isn’t a kook or anything. She just realizes that we are at our best physically when we are doing well mentally. She is a wonderful person to talk to about any issues you are having and introduced me to the best group of women in San Francisco. Seriously, she rocks. Go see her and try to play down the fact that Liz is a little obsessed.
I met Keely when she was teaching Stroller Strides classes and doing personal training in her awesome home gym in San Francisco. We worked out together about four to five times a week for more than two years, and I’m so grateful for that time with her! Not only was she excellent for my gluteous maximus, she made a terrific workout partner—always upbeat and energetic, and always with a helpful idea or comment. Her workouts are fun and tailored to your strengths, and she made sure to push me using awesome equipment like the TRX.If you’re looking for a fun, kind, energetic encourager who will be your champion as you fight to get that six pack back, or burn off those baby pounds, Keely is your gal.
